I am a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Education at Western University, Canada, working under the supervision of Dr. Farahnaz Faez. I hold a Bachelor of Art and a Master of Art in English Language Teaching (TEFL).
My research interests include Second/Foreign language acquisition, English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL), Teacher Education, and Vocabulary Acquisition/Learning.
Drawing on the cognitive theory of multimedia learning (Mayer, 2014) and dual-coding theory (Paivio, 2007, 1986), my doctoral thesis examines the effectiveness of simultaneous multimedia glossing on L2 learners’ vocabulary learning in terms of their short and long-term word retention.
I have been teaching English to ESL/EFL learners from various language backgrounds and cultures for over 17 years; and have been preparing candidates for IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) since 2001, and CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) examinations since 2014. I prioritize learners’ needs, employ effective language strategies, provide individual and whole group support, contribute directly to ESL learners’ success and achievements, integrate multicultural teaching units and practices in class, and offer positive encouragement and reinforcement to keep language learners focused and motivated. I assist ESL learners by engaging them in communicative language skills through developing and preparing stimulating lesson plans and language curriculum that facilitate different learning styles. My goal is to foster and maintain an open and honest communicative and supportive language learning environment for the learners.
I am certified as both ab ESL and theory instructor by TESL Ontario.
My hobbies include jogging, playing Santoor (Iranian traditional musical instrument), and reading novels.
