Norma McMillan is an award winning teacher at both the Elementary and University level. Most recently, she won the Teacher Advocacy Award from the Ontario Association for Support in Physical and Health Education (OASPHE) for her work supporting students in becoming physically literate citizens. She has also been honoured at the Faculty of Education at Western University. She is a current Member of Physical and Health Education (PHE) Research Council.
Her current work with Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB), has her teaching Health and Physical Education to students at the Elementary level. She has also been an Instructional Coach for TVDSB, and convened and coached many sports throughout her career. Norma is committed in promoting culturally responsive pedagogy through enjoyment of movement, promoting adaptation and modification in programming, and meeting student needs. Her work with student leadership can be seen through initiatives such as Ontario Physical and Health Education Association’s (OPHEA) Raise the Bar program . Her favourite educational experience has been developing Ontario H&PE Curriculum as a TVDSB team leader and ultimately promoting H&PE through workshop presentations at Regional and District levels.
At Western University she currently teaches Curriculum and Pedagogy in Health and Physical Education where she believes in setting teacher candidates up for success in H&PE teachings. Through this work, Norma became a Founding Board of Directors Member for Embodied Learnings, which is a non profit organization dedicated to support and professional development of conscious-minded teachers.
