Western Education remains one of the world's top-ranked education faculties
Western Education has once again earned its spot in the upper echelon of faculties of education in the world.
The 2024 edition of Times Higher Education’s (THE) subject rankings placed Western Education as the 75th best faculty of education among 703 universities worldwide. Nationally, Western Education was ranked the 4th best faculty of education in Canada for the second straight year.
THE collects and provides extensive data, insight, and expertise on higher education worldwide. This expertise involves providing annual rankings of universities based on several different metrics, including reputation, impact, and by subject.
THE’s ranking of Western Education is consistent with other important higher education ranking results. Maclean’s 2024 rankings listing it as the 6th best faculty of education in Canada. Back on the international stage, Shanghai Ranking’s latest global ranking of academic subjects placed Western Education in the world’s top 150 faculties of education.
“The Faculty of Education at Western continues to be top ranked in the world!” said a proud Dr. Donna Kotsopoulos, who serves as the Dean of Western Education.

Since she started the role in 2021, Western Education has been consistently recognized as a leading faculty nationally and internationally. According to Kotsopoulos, the credit for this achievement is spread across everyone at the faculty.
“Our impact is significant and wide-reaching. The faculty are amongst the most accomplished in their fields,” she said.
Western Education has numerous research centres supporting the work of many researchers, community partners, and students, who are all working to create a better community, country, and world.
“This shapes our outstanding programs and opportunities for a world-class education for our students,” Kotsopoulos added.
Western Education has plenty to offer for the thousands of students it serves each year. Along with its renowned Teacher Education program, there are also graduate degrees available in a variety of research-intensive and professional fields.
Across the globe, there are more than 44,000 purple and proud Western Education alumni. Those who have already graduated may find themselves coming back to take part in its Additional Qualification courses or the International Baccalaureate educator certificate program.
There is even more on the horizon for Western Education and those interested can catch a glimpse of what’s to come by viewing the faculty’s strategic plan for 2022 to 2028.
Guided by the values of excellence, integrity, equity, belonging, kindness and social justice, this plan lays the foundation necessary to achieve Western Education’s mission of transforming education and transforming lives.
The goal of this mission is to not only ensure the educators of tomorrow are best equipped to nurture the potential of children and youth, but to also produce the knowledge and research needed to foster safe, healthy, connected communities everywhere.
