The Doctor of Education Class of 2024.

Dear Class of 2024,

It brings me great pleasure to congratulate you on obtaining your Doctorate in Education. During times like these, I feel privileged to serve as the Dean for the Faculty of Education at Western University. Truly, I am so incredibly proud.

I am so sorry to have missed our Doctor of Education Graduate Reception, but I trust that you had a wonderful time connecting with each other and celebrating your achievements. I hear that some of you travelled from as far as Tokyo, Prague, and even Tanzania! How lovely it is that you were able to make this special evening possible.

During your time with us, you have demonstrated a tremendous sense of dedication, passion, and scholarly aptitude, all while fulfilling the duties of your busy lives and careers. In 2021, you came to us having already accomplished so much, but still you sought to do more, all for the sake of improving the world around you.

Words are not enough to express how inspiring it is to witness your growth, transformation, and success. You have already completed such important work here. This is made evident by the fact that your work is among the most cited at Western Libraries. I am excited to see what you do next.

You are now a member of our Western Education Alumni Family. As a member of our family, I do hope you’ll join us in fostering the next generation of Doctor of Education students as they follow in your footsteps.

We are working to establish a scholarship in honour of Steve Mavers, a Doctor of Education student who sadly passed away in 2021 during the first year of his studies.

Steve Mavers.Steve Mavers.

With your help, we can cherish Steve’s memory and offer crucial support to Doctor of Education students with a financial need. This would be the first scholarship of its kind and to demonstrate my own commitment, I am offering to match all donations made by the class of 2024.

As part of your support for the Steve Mavers Award, please consider joining our Dean’s Transformational Leaders Circle. Established in honour of our Faculty’s 50th Anniversary, this is a unique community for our most loyal donors.

Entrance into the Dean’s Transformational Leaders Circle requires an ongoing monthly gift of $50. Leaders within the Circle receive special recognition from the Faculty, as well as exclusive invitations to special lectures and events hosted by me. You can join the Circle and direct your support to this new Award.

Please click here to donate and join the Dean’s Transformational Leaders Circle: https://www.westernconnect.ca/site/SPageNavigator/education.html

Remember, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar. Rosie Triebner, our Director of Community Engagement & Development, can help you if you have any questions. She can be reached at rtriebne@uwo.ca.

Lastly, I would encourage you to please stay in touch! We would love to feature you on our Transforming Education, Transforming Lives story series. While you’re reading through previous stories, be sure to visit our 50th Anniversary website, which includes a video series featuring members of our community, along with a Memories collection from alumni such as yourselves.

If you’re interested in some unique merchandise, you can also purchase a 50th Anniversary Hoodie, which is available in purple, grey, or black.

I hope you enjoy scrolling through the photos below. Congratulations again to the Class of 2024!
