Rex Murphy at the Faculty of Education
More than 500 people gathered in the auditorium on Thursday, November 19 to hear noted Canadian, columnist, broadcaster and Newfoundlander Rex Murphy speak on “reading.” This year’s Joan Pederson Lecture Series speaker was a hit with all audience members from students to senior alumni.
There were moments of great hilarity as Murphy spoke affectionately of his home province, and moments of somber reflection as he spoke, with great eloquence, of the gifts and privileges we enjoy as Canadians - our breathtaking landscapes, our sense of social obligations and most importantly, the right to an education and the world of the imagination that opens with that opportunity.
“Rex was nothing less than fantastic,” said one alumnus.
