Tell me a story
The first in a series of presentations by the Language Arts Forum was held on November 11. Susan Getchell, a retired Children’s Librarian, professional storyteller and lecturer in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, presented, to the great delight of her audience, “Storytelling in the Lives of Children.” Susan Getchell illustrated the power of storytelling as a way to establish relationships with children. She explained that storytelling, more than a narrative, is an effective strategy for teaching all subjects.
The next lecture in the series will be “ESL Students in the Regular Classroom,” on January 13, followed by “Graphic Novels,” Readers’ Theatre,” and “A Principal’s View on Language Arts and Getting a Job,” in January through to March.
