Welcome! Class of 2009
More than 750 Faculty of Education students poured through the doors on Thursday, August 28, eager to get going on their academic year. They were welcomed by Associate Dean, Margaret McNay and by Dean Julia O’Sullivan who reminded them that it will be a challenging year but encouraged them saying, “keep your eye on the prize,” a Bachelor of Education degree and a career in the best profession of all – teaching. Dean O’Sullivan congratulated the new students, 760 B.Ed. candidates, chosen from more than 5,000 applicants.
With the help of 15 new alumni, the student council from the Class of 2008, students were given tours of the building and Western’s campus. They found their lockers, picked up OSAP forms, toured Media and Information Services labs and facilities, familiarized themselves with the Education Library and discovered the cafeteria. And from the buzz in the lobby and the hallways, new friendships were forming.
The highlight of Day Two was a picnic on a very large scale – pizza for 760. After a Labour Day weekend break, classes begin September 2.
