Australian scholar to speak
Dr. Wendy Cumming-Potvin will be a guest speaker at the Faculty on Monday, December 1. Dr. Cumming-Potvin’s talk, “Multiliteracies and diversity for pre-service teachers and young children: Building and reflecting on worlds and identities,” is scheduled for 11:00 am in Room 1010.
A Senior Lecturer at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, Dr. Cumming-Potvin specializes in a socio-cultural and critical approach to learning, with particular emphasis on multiliteracies. Focusing on community collaboration, Dr. Cumming-Potvin’s research, teaching and consulting have involved inner-city, remote and socio-economically disadvantaged areas in both Australia and Canada. Wendy currently tutors for “An Even Start,” an Australian national program aiming to promote successful literacy outcomes for children, families and school communities.
