Critical Policy, Equity and Leadership Studies

Jessica Ellen Ticar is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in Critical Policy, Equity, and Leadership studies at the Faculty of Education, Western University. Jessica is investigating how Filipina/o youth achieve and/or make sense of their transnational identity and belonging in Toronto urban high schools, given their experience of global migration through Canada’s Live-in/Caregiver Program. This study intends to identify the specific social and educational needs of Filipina/o high school students, seeking the perspectives of Filipina/o community leaders, Filipina/o parents/guardians, and Filipina/o youth, in order to make recommendations to policy makers, educational systems, and social service agencies for inclusive and equitable practice. These recommendations may potentially benefit diverse students and their communities.
