Asad is a first year PhD candidate in the Faculty of Education, Critical Policy, Equity, and Leadership Studies. His Ph.D. research focuses on the work and wellbeing of Islamic school principals in Ontario.  His research interests include areas within educational leadership, early childhood leadership, wellness and equity education, inclusivity, religious schooling, social justice, educational policy, Islamophobia in schools, and school leaders’ work intensification. 

He completed his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in psychology from Carleton University; his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from the University of Ottawa; and his Master of Education (M.Ed.) from Athabasca University.  He is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) in good standing and has completed the Principal Qualifications Program.

In his career as a school principal, Asad was the recipient of the 2016 Alberta Distinguished Leadership award while serving as principal with the Calgary Islamic School under the Palliser Regional School District in Alberta.  He has been serving in Islamic education for 20 years, including 11 years in administration.

Currently, in addition to his graduate research assistant position at Western University, Asad also serves as a sessional professor at Fanshawe College in the Faculty of Community Studies for the early childhood leadership degree program.
