Update May 25, 2021

Facilities will be completing the remainder of the roof replacement at Althouse. Last year this was partially completed on the majority of the roof. There are still some parts that need doing.

The project will start today, Tuesday May 25th on the roof with a rock vacuum truck, which will be fairly loud. This operation will be 4-5 working days.

The roofing crew would then mobilize with equipment and materials after this. They anticipate to be 6 weeks on site, including rain days.

Update September 1, 2020

1. All members of the Western community are required to wear non-medical masks or face coverings indoors in the presence of others, and in common and shared spaces. This includes corridors, lobbies, washrooms, elevators, classrooms, teaching laboratories, meeting rooms, or any area where physical distancing is a challenge. Western is supplying all employees and students with washable-branded masks.

For those with approved accommodations who are unable to wear a mask, Western will provide a face shield.

I have now distributed one pack of reusable face masks (3 each) in all offices at the faculty. If you’ve returned to the building and have not received your designated packet or you require a face shield, please submit a request at Education Support Portal.

2. As we move into Phase 4 Return, the building perimeter doors will be open from 07:00am to 20:00pm, Monday to Friday from September 3 rd , 2020. You will no longer need Western Card to access the building during these hours.

If you have been notified by your supervisor that you are required to work on campus, please follow these existing protocols:

In addition to these steps, there are newly installed floor and room signage for social distancing guidelines. Please adhere to them when you are in the building.

3. During Orientation Week, Monday 7 th September – Saturday 12 th September there will be a few road and parking lot closures. Please see the map below for more information.

Social Distancing at Faculty of Education

Western has hired consultancy firm Perkins & Will to develop safe guidelines for physical distancing.  This analysis has all been done virtually and their main focus has been on classrooms and lab spaces.

All classrooms and meeting spaces have reduced capacity to enforce the safe distancing rule of 2m (6ft). On Friday, July 31  2020, Facilities Management has installed signage throughout the building in all Classrooms, Meeting Rooms and Hallways.

Whilst walking throughout the building, you will notice clear signage directing visitors to keep right. Moreover, rooms with two doors now have signs which indicate the appropriate entrance and exit doorways. Lastly, classrooms and meeting spaces are labelled with seating arrangements that we request you abide by, as well as the maximum capacity for each room; please see the information paper attached to the front of each door of the classroom.

When you are in the building, we ask that you please follow these guidelines.

Building Access

Entering the building is only allowed with permission from your supervisor. If approval is extended to you, then please follow the instructions outlined below:
  • View the eight-minute COVID-19: Return to Campus Essentials training module video on OWL.
  • Complete the ‘Return to Campus’ questionnaire before each work shift/visit to campus. The questionnaire is accessed by logging in to My Human Resources. Note: You do not need to complete the questionnaire if you are feeling sick. Just complete the Absence Notification Tool and notify your supervisor.
  • Practice physical distancing! When possible, stay two metres apart (6ft).
  • Western requires the use of non-medical masks/face coverings indoors in the presence of others and in common and shared spaces on campus. Should you require a non-medical mask/face covering, contact your supervisor.
  • Wash hands thoroughly and often and avoid touching your face.

The building perimeter doors can only be accessed with your Western One Card. In lieu of this, your card must be granted the necessary permissions that will allow you into the building. If you plan on visiting in the future, please submit a support ticket to check if your card has the proper access.

PPE and Mask

Ensuring the health and safety of our campus community is our most important concern; in order to maintain such standards, meeting physical distancing requirements is critical. As such, Western requires the use of non-medical masks/face coverings in the presence of others, and in common and shared spaces on campus. These act as a personal hygiene measure in order to protect others from potential infectious droplets.

Western is committed to providing each employee with three reusable cloth face coverings as they return to campus.

If you are returning to the building and are in need of a face mask, please do not hesitate to contact your department heads who will gladly request a face mask for you.
