Neighbours, Friends and Family embraced by the community

February 12, 2010

Representatives from 40 workplaces, elected officials and members of the community gathered on February 12 to celebrate the overwhelming support of the community for the Neighbours, Friends and Family initiative. The event recognized organizations leading the way in addressing workplace domestic violence around the province. The Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women hosted the celebration in London. Similar events took place in Strathroy, Stratford, Owen Sound and Windsor on the same day.

Representatives from the workplaces received certificates honouring their dedication to the project. They were warmly congratulated by Attorney General Chris Bentley, MP Ed Holder, MPP Khalil Ramal, MPP Irene Matheson, Mayor Ann Marie Dicicco-Best and, from Western, Vice President Ted Hewitt. Premier Dalton McGuinty sent a letter of congratulations (read by Chris Bentley) to Barb MacQuarrie on the successful outcome of the program.

The Ontario Government provided support for the public education campaign to teach warning signs of domestic violence in the workplace.
