Deb Matthews speaking at the Faculty of Education

Deb Matthews, MPP and Minister Responsible for Children and Youth and Women’s Issues, was a special guest at the Friends of the Faculty reception on October 09 in the Community Room. Close to 100 guests from the community including school boards, not for profit organizations, Western faculties and social agencies were welcomed by Julia O’Sullivan. Deb Matthews was generous in her praise of the important role the Faculty plays in critical research that becomes social policy. She specifically cited her own priority of reducing child poverty and applauded the Faculty researchers to whom she will look to help develop new policy to reduce poverty among Ontario’s youngest citizens. The community reception was symbolic of the Faculty opening doors to the many important community members, organizations and agencies that partner with students and faculty members.
